Virginia Child Custody - The Winning Strategy

By Harel Peng

If you are in a child custody debate now, the judge of the family court in Virginia (or any other state) may order a child custody evaluation for you and your ex. This is done by a professional, such as a psychologist or a social worker.

The professional will review you and your ex's situation, and make recommendation to the court to arrange parenting and custody arrangements based on the best interest of your child.

remember that the judge will seriously consider the recommendation from the professional when making the child custody arrangement, you need to be thoroughly prepared for your child custody evaluation. Here are some tips you can use:

1. Arrive in time for the child custody evaluation appointment. This shows that you are serious about your child and really want to work with the professional for the best interest of your child.

2. Dress propertly and conservatively. The professional will view you as a dad or mom other than anyone else. You want to show the professional the real you when you act as a responsible parent.

3. Be honest and objective. Everything you tell your child custody evaluator may be double checked with information from other sources. Plus, your ex may provide information that's conflict with what you have provided. If this happens, anything untruthful will hurt you.

4. If the custody evaluator uses psychological testing, be cooperative and answer all the questions honestly and objectively. These are the questions designed to reveal false statements and lies. Unless you are a psychological expert yourself, you won't have any chance to fool the expert.

5. Answer each question right to the point. Pay attention to every question and try your best to give truthful and objective answers. Avoid any feeling or complaints, because the final child custody order is based on the best interest of your child.

6. Avoid any traps. Sometime you may not be aware that your answer is actually wrong. For example, you may be changing job to offer a better financial support for your child. However, this could be interpreted as the lack of financial stability.
