It is general knowledge that the marriage vows entail spending the rest of your life with your spouse "till death do you part." But with the alarming rise of divorce and separation rates and how fast marriage comes and goes, you're left thinking what if they could've just sworn to spend the rest of their lives "till irreconcilable differences do you part." There's this gray area from the time you got married and you can't wait to start your lives together up until the part you've actually been considering getting a divorce.

Most of the time in these cases, a simple misunderstanding or a petty fight can turn into one huge irreversible mess. And then pride and self-centeredness comes in the way and clouds what's left of your better judgment to patch things up with your spouse. Then you and your spouse tend to just have grown apart from each other and next thing you know, you've already forgotten why you fell in love with your spouse in the first place.

But once you slowly learn how to let your pride and self-serving beliefs leave your mind, it can never be too late to try and sort things out again with your spouse. It is important to look at the bigger picture and what you will be giving up just because from a petty fight that could've been resolved easily. So before things could go way out hand, it's perhaps time to exert a bit of effort in ways on how to save your marriage.

It can never be too late to start making an effort, and one of the ways on how to save your marriage is to make time for you and your spouse to have some quiet alone time. It is important that you and your spouse make an effort to shut the world off for a moment and just relax and talk to each other. It's the time wherein you can tell each other all your concerns and problems and in return, listen attentively to what your spouse has to say as well.

Another way on how to save your marriage is to do a little something for your spouse every day. It doesn't have to be something grand, it just has to be something unexpected and spontaneous. This adds a little romance which married couples sometimes forget to work on. It can be a cup of coffee, a short massage, a love letter, or even your spouse's favorite dinner at the end of a busy day.

One of the most important aspect of marriage and basically every relationship is the ability to compromise and be selfless. Prioritizing your spouse's needs before your own is probably the most important way on how to save your marriage. Selflessness and sacrifice is one of the highest forms of love you can ever offer to your spouse.

And while it is very important to cater to your spouse's needs and spend time with him/her, it is also important to spend time with yourself. Sometimes failed marriages result from one spouse losing his/her own identity and wanting it back even at the expense of destroying the marriage. It is imperative to value yourself first and know your true worth so your spouse can likewise value your importance and worth much more.

Knowing how to save your marriage begins with yourself. You and your spouse need not exactly change according to each other's expectations, but there will always be room for improvement and betterment.

It all begins with one step, one day at a time. Rushing into things never resulted in something beneficial and the same applies to a marriage. With these simple ways on how to save your marriage, you're not only bringing romance in your married lives but you're actually putting back the true meaning and sanctity of what it's like to be married.
