Is It Time To Seek Guidance To Save A Bad Marriage?

The stresses and strains of daily life can take their toll on a marriage. It's not easy to make the happiness of your spouse a priority whilst juggling work, household tasks, children, and budgets. Further stress can come from having to deal with troubled children, aging parents, job insecurity or ill heath. It's not always easy to tell whether your relationship is simply going through a bad patch or whether you should look for help to save a bad marriage. Here are some pointers.

If any of the following apply to you and your partner, you might need assistance building trust. Your partner seems unreasonably jealous or protective. When your spouse is away, you worry about what they've been up to. You sometimes suspect that your partner is not telling you the truth.

You could probably use some support in rebuilding your relationship if you answer 'yes' to the following questions. Do you feel more at home when your spouse is out of the house? Does your partner spend too much time on leisure activities that don't include you? When you or your partner make choices, do you tend to consider your own needs rather than what's best for both of you?

Have you and your spouse become more like housemates than husband and wife? Do you ever think that the only thing you have to talk about is your children or that they are the only thing keeping you together? Do you no longer find your partner sexually attractive? Maybe you could do with some advice on how to bring back the romance.

You might benefit from training in communication skills if you can relate to the following. Discussions over important issues often turn into shouting matches. You find yourself having the same argument over and over again. In a disagreement, neither of you ever admit to being wrong. You're guilty of saying hurtful things to your partner.

If there are aspects of your relationship that concern you, it could be time to get the help you need to make a change. With the proper advice, things can only get better.
